IA & UI NAVIGATION PROTOTYPE
AUSTRALIAN
UI/UX
Project Overview
The challenge was to transition from the initial stages of definition and information architecture (IA) into the design phase. The task focused on enhancing the user experience of the Australian Post website, particularly its navigation system. The aim was to understand user interactions with the website's content, especially how they navigate through various sections of a government agency website.
Proto-persona
John Duggs, a 44-year-old online sales professional from Brisbane, leads a busy life with regular work hours. With family spread across Australia, he frequently sends parcels and letters and values quick, reliable delivery options. John needs a seamless experience with Australia Post, including easy parcel tracking, the ability to postpone deliveries, and a subscription service to manage his high volume of shipments. He's family-oriented, detail-focused, and prefers to stay in control of the delivery process, ensuring everything is handled efficiently.
Statement
John, a small business owner in Brisbane, regularly relies on Australian Post to manage his shipping needs. As he expands his online store, she appreciates the convenience of Australian Post's user-friendly platform. He visits the Australian Post website to track the shipping status of his customer orders, calculate postage costs for new shipments, and find the nearest post office for efficient drop-offs. With the assistance of Australian Post's services, John can ensure that her customers receive their orders promptly, helping her business thrive and leaving his customers satisfied with reliable shipping solutions.
Evaluation checklist
Overall the website had a good rating but was lacking a strong formatting style and hierarchy of messaging. It was also difficult to find things.
Annotate usability and heuristic issues
In this section, we identify and analyse key usability and heuristic issues that may impact the overall user experience. Each issue is carefully evaluated based on established usability principles, including ease of use, efficiency, error prevention, and user satisfaction. By addressing these issues, we aim to enhance the interface's intuitiveness, streamline user workflows, and ensure that the product aligns with best practices in UX design.
Moodboard and Style Guide
Our moodboard draws inspiration from the natural beauty and diverse landscapes of Australia, capturing the essence of the country's rich heritage. The color palette is dominated by deep, earthy tones that reflect the rugged outback and vibrant coastlines. Rich reds evoke the warmth of the desert sands, while deep blues mirror the vast Australian skies and oceanic depths. This combination of colors not only grounds the design in the Australian environment but also creates a sense of warmth, reliability, and connection. These visual elements come together to evoke a sense of authenticity and a strong connection to the land.
Navigation usability
The shop page is its own mini website, and once you're on it, returning to the main page can be challenging.
Users statements
Here is a few statements from the users navigating the Australian post shop page.
Card sorting for navigation
We grabbed the information from the shop page on the Australian post and made it more streamline for users to quickly navigate the websites.
New sitemap
I attempted to merge pages to reduce sub-navigation and make it easier for viewers to navigate quickly.
New navigation prototype
Creating a side navigation breaks away from the main navigation to give the user more direct access to specific sections and features on the website that is shop related.
